Apple Pay in Use

If you’ve used Apple Pay in its debut week, you might have been double charged for that McDonald’s double cheeseburger. Multiple users have reported being charged twice for a single purchase when using the new NFC-based mobile payments system, which just went live on Oct. 20.

CNN Tech reporter Samuel Burke experienced the issue himself, claiming that he was billed twice for every Apple Pay purchase he made with his Bank of America card via Apple Pay. Multiple Twitter users reported the same problem, and most complaints are coming from folks with Bank of America cards.

Bank of America claims that the issue is with Apple Pay and not the bank, and said in a statement that all duplicate charges will be reimbursed. On Apple’s end, a spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company is “aware of a Bank of America issue impacting a very small number of Apple Pay users,” and is “working on a fix that will be available shortly.”

Released on Monday alongside iOS 8.1, Apple Pay allows iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users to store bank cards digitally and make NFC payments with their phones. The payment service is currently accepted at locations such as American Eagle, Bloomingdale’s, Champs Sports, McDonalds and Walgreens, and is expected to hit stores like Sephora, Staples and Urban Outfitters by year’s end.
