Apple has updated its Maps applications for iOS and OS X to activate new “Nearby” search options for Australia, Canada, France, and Germany, as well as adding additional Flyover views for parts of Hawaii and a number of European and other cities. The “Nearby” function overlays some local business or point-of-interest information to Maps destinations, making it easier to find local establishments and attractions. Categories include Health, Food, Shopping, Services, and other categories.

Flyover views were added to maps of 15 cities around the world, including Prague (Czech Republic); Gorge du Verdon (France); Bielefeld (Germany); Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nagoya, Okayama, Osaka, and Sendai (Japan); Talum (Mexico); Porto (Portugal); Leon (Spain), Basel (Switzerland), and two places in the US — Hawaii (Big Island), and Lassen Volcanic National Park in California. The company is also thought to be adding street-level mapping to its program, but hasn’t implemented that feature yet.
