Amazon Studios is reworking it plans for its Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones staring disaster drama The Aeronauts.

Originally slated for an October 25th traditional theatrical run including a one-week IMAX engagement, the film will now instead get a short stateside theatrical release on December 6th ahead of a  launch on the Amazon’s streaming service December 20th.

Tom Harper helms the film which is set in 1862 and follows wealthy young widow Amelia Wren (Jones) and headstrong scientist James Glaisher (Redmayne) as they mount a balloon expedition to fly higher than anyone in history. It’s a journey to the edge of the then-known world, where the air is thin and the chances of survival are slim. Jack Thorne penned the script for the film which also stars Tom Courtenay, Anne Reid, Vincent Perez and Rebecca Front.

The fate of the IMAX run is now unknown. The filmmakers  shoot  key sequences of the film specifically for IMAX projection, so let’s how they will be an IMAX screening window.
