Epix, which is a premium entertainment network backed by Paramount Pictures’ Viacom, MGM, and Lionsgate, has signed a multi-year agreement with Amazon to provide its movies, sports, music to the Prime Instant Video platform. The service is similar to Netflix as it lets users rent, buy, or subscribe to get access to a range of video content. The service is bundled with Amazon’s two-day Prime shipping service, which is charged on an annual basis.
Before this deal was announced, the specifics of which are murky, Prime Instant Video offered nearly 25,000 movies and TV shows. Amazon only said the new deal will result in thousands of new releases, classic titles, and original programs.
The agreement means users will get access to movies such as The Avengers, Iron Man 2, The Hunger Games, Transformers, Dark of the Moon, Thor and Rango.
The Prime Instant Video service is available on the Kindle Fire, iPad, Xbox 360, Sony PS3, through Roku and on the iPad in the US.
