Electronic Arts has announced that FIFA 10 Ultimate Team, the popular game mode expansion that creates a new way of playing the award-winning EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 10, is available now to download for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The original Ultimate Team expansion mode for FIFA Soccer 09 was the most popular PDLC expansion mode ever released by EA SPORTS, with over 35 million gold, silver and bronze packs opened, over 50 million auctions for players and items completed, and over 10 billion in-game coins exchanged in trades as legions of soccer fans took on the challenge to put a personally crafted team up against the rest of the world.

FIFA 10 Ultimate Team is half the price of the original — 400 Microsoft points or $4.99 through PlayStation Network — and this year enables gamers to manage one or multiple squads simultaneously, and compete against other gamers in dynamically updated online tournaments. Fans will be able to experience the game mode by creating a team with a starter pack of players and play a five game free* trial.

Featuring over 7,500 of the best soccer stars in the world to choose from, gamers can emulate the way real-world coaches and managers build the truly great soccer teams. Choose how to manage your team –- focusing on creating one formidable squad, or managing multiple squads to match dynamic requirements for tournaments and competitions. Buy, sell, trade and acquire the biggest stars to build your team. Be strategic and tactical in preparing your squads for the various in-game competitions. A completely redesigned chemistry system built around player relationships on the pitch means that managing teams and squads to their full potential is even more critical to success. Take carefully assembled squads into standard tournaments and themed competitions against the most formidable teams from around the world – and then out wit and out play them.

FIFA 10 Ultimate Team is available now to purchase for 400 Microsoft points or $4.99 as a download via Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network to FIFA Soccer 10. FIFA Soccer 10 and an internet connection are required for play. FIFA 10 Ultimate Team is developed by EA Canada in Burnaby, B.C. It is rated “E” for everyone by the ESRB and 3+ by PEGI.

Nokia Tops New ABI Research On-board Navigation Software Matrix Ranking

February 26, 2010 by Doug

Navigon and ALK Technologies claimed the second and third spots in the company’s new evaluation of worldwide on-board handset-based navigation software vendors.

The Vendor Matrix is an analytical tool developed by ABI Research to provide a clear understanding of vendors’ positions in specific markets. Vendors are assessed on the important parameters of “innovation” and “implementation” across several criteria unique to each vendor matrix.

Practice director Dominique Bonte comments: “Nokia’s recent decision to offer Ovi Maps for free globally across its smartphone portfolio further strengthens the number one ranking already obtained in the previous version of this Vendor Matrix. At the same time, Ovi Maps continues to be enhanced with features such as an online mapping portal, city guide local content, pedestrian map details, “Good Things” Points of Interest community feedback, and unique hybrid functionality. Finally, Nokia has bold plans to turn Ovi Maps into the leading open LBS development platform.”

For this particular matrix, under “innovation,” ABI Research examined the software’s navigation features, its support for local search, the availability of map upgrades, its sharing capabilities, its provision of traffic information, and the business model on which it is based, along with pricing options.

Under “implementation,” ABI Research scrutinized the following criteria: the vendors’ market share, their carrier agreements and handset/PDA manufacturer agreements, the products’ mobile platforms and form factor coverage, and the general health of the vendor companies. The breadth of global coverage, quality and reliability, and customization options were also factors considered.

To view a chart showing the rankings of the “top ten” firms in this Vendor Matrix, please visit Global On-board Navigation Software Matrix.

Disney Guilty Party Coming to Wii

February 25, 2010 by Doug

Disney Interactive Studios has announced Disney Guilty Party, a family-friendly mystery party game being developed exclusively for the Wii console. Created by Wideload Games, Disney Interactive Studios’ Chicago development studio, Guilty Party is scheduled for release in the second half of 2010.

Guilty Party tells the thrilling tale of the Dickens Detective Agency as they solve crimes set in motion by the master criminal known as Mr. Valentine. Up to four players can solve crimes in a variety of locations all over the world to unlock the secrets of Mr. Valentine’s grand scheme.

Guilty Party offers both cooperative and competitive gameplay for all ages. Players choose a detective and take turns exploring the environment to uncover clues to discover the culprit’s identity. When players have enough evidence, they can accuse their prime suspect and try to solve the case.

“Mysteries are one of the world’s most beloved forms of storytelling, and Guilty Party brings mysteries to Wii in a way that the whole family can play together,” said Tom Kang, studio head and general manager, Wideload Games. “Everyone loves a good mystery, especially when they get to be the detective.”

Players step into the shoes of the Dickens family and work together to explore crime scenes and play mini-games to collect clues and interrogate suspects. Guilty Party transforms the Wii Remote™ into classic detective tools: a magnifying glass, a flashlight, a lock-pick, a fingerprint kit, and more. Players then discuss and piece together the clues in their detective notebooks to deduce the identity of the culprit.

The Dickens family tracks Mr. Valentine across the globe, from a high-speed train to a leaky aquarium to many other locations to solve new mysteries. Once the mysteries are solved, players can play again with a new set of clues, suspects and mini-games with a different experience every time. It takes more than quick reflexes to win, it also takes quick wits.

“We’re packing an amazing amount of play-time into a single game,” said Patrick Curry, game director, Wideload Games. “Guilty Party is a bit like a board game, since families can play each mystery over and over again and never have the same experience twice.”

Guilty Party is the first new franchise developed by Wideload Games for Disney Interactive Studios. The game’s characters and locations are inspired by classic detective lore, with the storytelling, unique humor and art style that have distinguished Wideload Games. Guilty Party will have players applying logic to solve the mysteries while laughing at the wacky cast of characters, situations and animated scenes.

“Wideload Games is a leader in unique creative games that keep players entertained and amused for hours,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “Guilty Party was a natural fit for Disney and the beneficial working relationship led to the highly creative studio joining our portfolio of talented studios.”

Disney Guilty Party is Rating Pending by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
