Rumored to be getting a new title for some time, Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming 300 sequel is now called 300: Rise of an Empire. It was formerly known as 300: The Battle of Artemisia.

Currently in production, the Noam Murro films stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Rodrigo Santoro, Igal Naor, Callan Mulvey, Jack O’Connell and Andrew Tiernan and is planned for release on August 2, 2013.

The movie, a follow-up to Zack Snyder’s 2006 original (in turn based on Frank Miller’s 1998 comic book miniseries), is expected to tell, in part, the story of Greek General Themistocles, who lead Athens against Persian invaders in a battle that played out simultaneously with the Battle of Thermopylae (depicted in the first film).
